solidworks Creating new part in large assembly-to much wire-frame

I upgraded from 2008 to 2012 and one feature in 2008 that I liked was when I created a new part in an assembly it would stay in shaded mode so I can see where everything is until I hit the rebuild button, once I did that it went into wire frame. Now in 2012 when I create a new part inside of an assembly it goes right to wireframe and I get lost in the wire frame. Is there an option I cannot find that will fix this problem? If possible I would like to stop it from going to wire frame all together. I rarely need it in that state.
